Our Vocalise! programme is all about sharing the joy of singing, and this year we’re introducing a number of ‘Big Sing’ sessions in which we invite all of our schools to sing together. We did something similar in December for our Winter Singalong in which we sang carols and popular Christmas songs, but this time we’re singing a number of songs in preparation for our very exciting summer concert which is happening on June 17th.
This workshop was led by professional workshop facilitator Emily Varney, who guided the children through the session by helping them to warm up and work through the songs that we’d chosen.
We love to make sure that the children are moving around and using their bodies in the sessions, so actions are always encouraged!
The first piece that we sung in the session was called Give Us Hope by Jim Papoulis. You can hear a taste of it below – this was the very first time that the children had sung this. We think they did pretty well!
We’re looking forward to continuing our work in the Vocalise! programme throughout our 150th anniversary year – our work this season will culminate in our summer concert in which we’ll premiere an exciting new work we’ve commissioned which is called The Swifts Of Summer, written by Stephanie Jayne Amies. You can learn more about that new commission here – we’ll keep you updated on our progress as we’re learning it!
