What would Bach think of a 2026 B minor Mass performance?

What would Bach think if he heard his B minor Mass performed today?

Ahead of our 150th anniversary celebration concert of the B minor Mass, which we were formed in 1876 to give the UK premiere of, we asked David Hill what Bach might think if he were sat in the stalls.

What would Bach think of our B minor Mass?

As David Hill points out above,  Bach would never have heard the B minor Mass with a choir as large as The Bach Choir, as this number of singers wouldn’t have been available in Leipzig at that time.

Of course, our large scale belies our precision and lightness of touch, which is so crucial when it comes to singing this piece. We believe that our performance gives the best of both worlds – the precision of a chamber choir and the sheer power of a larger one. But why not come along and decide for yourself?
