Mozart’s breathtaking Qui Tollis

There are few moments in Mozart’s Great Mass in C minor quite like the Qui Tollis.

After the grandeur and drama of the opening movements, Mozart suddenly draws the music inward, creating one of the Mass’s most moving moments.

This unfinished masterpiece possesses extraordinary range. Mozart could move effortlessly from towering, monumental choral writing to music of remarkable intimacy – often within the same work.

In this performance, The Bach Choir brings its characteristic combination of power and precision to the music. Even without the full orchestra, you can hear the richness of Mozart’s writing – just imagine how it will sound with the might of the Britten Sinfonia around it!

And this is just one glimpse of what you can expect when we perform the complete Great Mass in C minor at Westminster Cathedral.

Conducted by David Hill, The Bach Choir will be joined by Britten Sinfonia and soloists Elizabeth Watts, Katherine Gregory, Sam Furness and James Platt. The programme also features Mozart’s The Magic Flute Overture, alongside works by Clara Schumann and Brahms.

Experience Mozart’s Great Mass in C minor live at Westminster Cathedral on 29 October 2026 at 7.30pm.
